On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Madeleine cloister will open its doors next weekend for the second consecutive year. This private residence acquired in 2022 by Greg Kucera and Larry Yocom, two retired Americans in Albi, formerly contemporary art gallery owners, has been the subject of substantial renovations that make it a heritage recreation, between briquettes and arches of the 17th century cloister and screen-printed windows designed by high-flying architects (work already initiated by former owners since 2004).
This year, the Madeleine cloister obtained a label from the Heritage Foundation for the exemplarity of its roof and frame renovation work in connection with the Bâtiments de France.
The central part of the cloister has also undergone a great evolution over the past two years: between a variety of colourful plantations, stone paths, and a new stone and wooden terrace around a new small swimming pool. A sumptuous ensemble to discover or rediscover during these two exceptional days of opening to the public, which also conclude a series of summer concerts organised by the association L’Atelier des Arts du Noble Val (82) in this former building of the Capuchin convent, a hats in the 19th century, and now a place dedicated to art.
Open doors of the Madeleine cloister – 44 rue de la Madeleine, 81000 ALBI (access through the church forecourt) – Saturday 21 September (10h-12h/14h-17h) and Sunday 22 September 2024 (14h-17h) – Free admission subject to a gauge.
