While the first phase of the work on the forecourt side of the church is completed (the repair of the large wall was carried out with great enthusiasm and quality by the mason of Réalmont Guillaume CUQ – Agame masonry, advised by the Bâtiments de France), the time has come for the cloister to open its doors to music for the summer break. The work will resume in September with the plastering of the lowest part of the wall, and the complete repair of the staircase leading to the cloister.
For the shows, it is always L’Atelier des Arts du Noble Val that organises, the agreement to make the place available free of charge having been formalised last year. Shakespeare’s play, performed in English in mid-June, was a great success: the company Pants on Fire performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream at a sold-out and their brilliant performance combining Shakespearean tradition and contemporary rereadings through acting, costumes or decor earned them thunderous applause.
Next appointments at the end of July and beginning of August:
On Sunday, July 27 at 9 p.m., Le Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo, a London-based ensemble composed of Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi and Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz-Berrade returns to Albi. Awarded with many international awards, the MZ Duo had excited the Albigensian public last year. Their repertoire extends from traditional works reinvented to modern improvisation, all rendered vividly by the unique combination of saxophone and accordion. Both David and Inigo have distinguished themselves as award-winning performers of classical, improvised, contemporary and experimental music.
On Friday, August 8 at 9 p.m., the Connaught Brass ensemble will perform at the cloister. They had already come for a concert in 2023 in the Madeleine church.
It should be remembered that Connaught Brass quickly established itself as a new talent in the world of chamber music.
They all recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music or the Guildhall School of Music in London and have already received many awards. Connaught Brass’ commitment, camaraderie and collective capacity have earned them many friends and fans through their recent BBC shows.
After being the main actors of the European Union Youth Orchestra and the national youth orchestras of Great Britain, Scotland and Wales, the members now appear on the professional circuit.
Connaught Brass’ ambition is to explore and share the widest range of musical repertoires with as wide an audience as possible, putting chamber music for brass at the forefront of today’s musical world. This project has many common denominators with the guidelines of the Atelier des Arts du Noble Val, as well as with the proprietary intentions of the Madeleine cloister.
Prices for each concert – Adults: €15. Under 18 years old: €10.
